Math

Mathematics at its core is a conversation generated by man’s search for the methods of God.  Early mathematicians looked for symmetry, form, and meaning based on their deep-rooted belief in a logical creator.  Our goal is to help students see mathematics in a similar way, as a tool (refined through effort and experience) to solve problems and in doing so to reveal the mind of God expressed in the universe around them.  Mathematics is innately beautiful in pattern and symmetry and is best learned when students use math to solve problems they need answers to (relevant) and when exposed to the supernatural beauty of mathematics (aesthetic experience).  Mathematics is also a great teacher of logic and reasoning in the service of understanding truth.  In our math program, students will workshop problems together, explore topics until understood, and then make annotated algorithms.  Students will author/build their own math text as they work through the progression of math content.

Euclid alone has looked on Beauty bare.
Let all who prate of Beauty hold their peace,
And lay them prone upon the earth and cease
To ponder on themselves, the while they stare
At nothing, intricately drawn nowhere...
