Michael Sumerton

Principal, Mathematics

Michael Sumerton, alongside his wife Catherine, has dedicated over two decades to educating and forming young people in academic, religious, and trade-related fields. Michael holds a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and a Master’s degree in Mathematics from Eastern Michigan University. With 16 years of experience as a math, engineering, and English teacher and eight years as a school administrator, Michael has served in various educational settings from public to alternative schools and home school co-ops. Michael and Catherine are blessed with nine homeschooled children, two scores of nieces and nephews, and a vibrant Catholic community. Michael enjoys mentoring and coaching young people, flyfishing, and shooting three pointers.
Throughout his career, Michael has been committed to fostering academic excellence and moral integrity in his students. His passion extends beyond the classroom; he helped found and served as board president for a homeschool co-op that benefits over 100 families from K-12th grade.
Michael mentors young people outside of school as a basketball coach, facilitating “Dad’s school” father-son events, and in various outdoor activities.
